Giveaway Winner

Posted by on 10-10-12 in Blog | 0 comments

Happy Tuesday Everyone! I’m sure everyone out there has been waiting with bated breath to see who wins our first giveaway.  And we’ll get to that momentarily, but first, I wanted to say a couple of things: Thanks to everyone who participated!  What had 27 independent entries, and that blew us away for our first giveaway. Thanks for helping us spread the word!  We have these planned every other week for a while, and we’ve got some exciting products to share, but it all hinges on you guys taking the time to help spread the...

Giveaway Day

Posted by on 9-09-12 in Blog | 8 comments

It’s finally here!  Our first giveaway* day!  I’m so excited I can barely contain my use of exclamation points!!!! *Try to type* giveaway without transposing the “y” and the “a” – it’s a lot harder than I expected. *Not now – it’s giveaway time.  Try that later. Since this is our first (of many) giveaways, we’ve selected a tool that we use on every trip.  Something that makes our time on the water go smoother by always being right where we need it when we need it.  Some...

Leaving a Legacy

Posted by on 9-09-12 in Blog | 0 comments

One part of my job that gives me a great deal of pleasure is instilling a love of the outdoors, and specifically fishing, in folks who are experiencing it for the first time. My dad started taking me fishing and hunting as soon as I was old enough to walk.  His dad did the same thing with him.  And his grandfather before him.  And on and on.  We were taught to respect the outdoors – if you killed it, you’d better eat it*. *This is how 14 year old Travis came to acquire a distaste for grilled opossum after a back yard...

The Giveaway: Coming Next Week!

Posted by on 9-09-12 in Blog | 0 comments

Yes. It’s almost time for the much anticipated giveaway. I tried coming up with a catchy name for the giveaway*, but, well, nothing is coming to mind.  So it’s called the giveaway. *other suggestions included: the contest, the challenge, the raffle, the sweepstakes, and Charlie.  None of these won.  We may ultimately call it the Friday Freebie, but I, I, I just don’t know.  Cut me some slack. Our initial plan is to do giveaways on Fridays, and let them run for a few days (say, 96 hours or so) and announce the winner on...

Tools of the Trade

Posted by on 9-09-12 in Blog | 0 comments

Fishing in its purest form requires a person, a fish, some water, a pole, and some line. Over the years I’ve had a collection of tools that have helped me refine this craft…these things aren’t “MUST’ have items on the boat, but they sure make many of my days go better.  All of these are items I currently own, have owned, or have lusted over and handled (woah – gotta keep this PG – I’m looking at you Lifeproof case).   Boga Grip – $125 – boga-grip.com – About 10 years ago...

Fishing Confessions

Posted by on 9-09-12 in Blog | 0 comments

I’ve never caught a cobia. I’ve had a number of folks on my boat catch them – at certain times of the year, they are a fairly common by-catch while we are fishing for tarpon. It always seems, though, that while I’m on the poling platform or re-rigging a rod, one of those brown bombers appears from out of nowhere.  It’s also at that point where the other angler in the boat makes the cast of a lifetime, leading the fish by the perfect distance, the bait entering the water with barely any splash.  It’s like...

Let the Sunshine in . . .

Posted by on 9-09-12 in Blog | 0 comments

I guess the title should probably read “Keep the Sunshine out . . .” but that’s not nearly as catchy. Sun protection is a big deal when you spend hundreds of days per year on the water. It’s also a big deal if you’re just going to be spending a couple of days a month on the water.  I’ve had too many friends have too many body parts cut off to mess around with sun protection.  Below is just a sampling of many of the products we use to stay cancer free . . .   Buff – $23 – buffusa.com...

Very Superfishtious . . .

Posted by on 9-09-12 in Blog | 2 comments

No bananas on the boat. It’s the most famous of all the fishing superstitions, right? Story after story has been told about guides who, in the midst of a bunch of great fishing days, suddenly go cold. After investigating the cooler, it’s determined that a client surreptitiously boarded the vessel with a banana or two in the lunch provisions. In each and every case, this draws the captain’s ire, whereupon the offender and his fruit are made to perform a series of gyrations, generally consisting of either: a) Donating the...
